Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) is Queensland’s peak beach safety and rescue authority.
SLSQ represents 59 surf life saving clubs with more than 28,000 members and another 40 supporters’ clubs with 200,000 members, making it one of the largest volunteer-based community organisations in Australia.
More than 8,000 active surf life saving members patrol beaches from Port Douglas in north Queensland to Rainbow Bay in Queensland’s south, saving over 3,000 lives every year. SLSQ also aims to achieve zero preventable deaths and injuries on Queensland beaches, with education programs focusing on prevention, emergency care and rescue.

In 2005/2006, SLSQ community programs reached 107,866 participants, covering issues such as aquatic safety and marine stinger education for school aged children, and the delivery of the vital message of surf safety throughout Queensland.
The TRUenergy SLSQ Beach Safe program which launched in May 2007, is a two-year program that will teach school students about aquatic safety, beach safety, surf skills and personal safety.
With TRUenergy’s support, SLSQ aims to deliver its educational programs to more than 50,000 young people this year.
TRUenergy's support will also help SLSQ run junior activities in Clubs across south-east Queensland.
2007 is ‘Year of the Surf Lifesaver’, marking the 100th anniversary of Surf Life Saving in Australia. The Year of the Surf Lifesaver celebrates the crucial role surf lifesavers play in keeping beaches safe and in the formation of the Australian beach culture.
