Energy Company - About TRUenergy

Who is TRUenergy?
TRUenergy is the new name for the energy business previously called TXU. The new name also covers the businesses previously called Yallourn Energy and Auspower. These businesses now form one integrated business.

Who are Yallourn Energy and Auspower?
Yallourn Energy and Auspower are now called TRUenergy. These businesses are owned by CLP Power Asia which also purchased the TXU Energy Business in May 2005. TRUenergy brings these businesses together under a common brand.

What does TRUenergy do?
TRUenergy supplies gas and electricity to 1.1 million homes in Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales. We also generate electricity in both Victoria and South Australia and we are looking to build a generator in NSW.

Who owns TRUenergy?
TRUenergy is owned by CLP Power Asia, a subsidiary of the CLP Group. The CLP Group is based in Hong Kong and is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. CLP Power Asia invests in energy-related businesses across the Asia Pacific region, including India, Thailand, Taiwan and Australia.

What do I need to do to maintain my gas and electricity supply?
Nothing. TRUenergy is the new name for TXU, so we will handle everything for you, same as before.

Will the prices I pay for gas and electricity change?
Your prices will remain the same with TRUenergy as they were with TXU.

Why change the name when TXU is well known and successful?
When its American parent company, TXU CORP, sold TXU Australia, part of the agreement was that the name needed to be changed because the brand belonged to the American company.

I heard that TXU is now called SP AusNet. So which is it – TRUenergy or SP AusNet?
Prior to the change in names, the business that was called TXU was split in half. The part of that business that owned gas and electricity network assets (that is, pipes and wires) is now called SP AusNet and is owned by Singapore Power. The business that sells energy to homes and businesses is called TRUenergy and is owned by CLP.
